QuickBooks – Setting Up Single Units of Measure – Part 19

Posted by on May 13, 2011 in Inventory Module | 0 comments

Carrying on in this series on Units of Measure  (U/M) it is time to set up single units. I am still working with the example company file which is in a Construction related business.

To set up single units:

Go to your Home page and click on Items & Service.

I am going to select a non-inventory part item called Carpet.

Right click on that high lighted item and choose Edit Item which will open up that screen.

In the Unit of Measure field I will click on the drop down arrow and choose <Add New>, which will open up the Unit of Measure screen

Since this particular company sells carpet by the foot, I will click on the button for Length (inch, foot, yard, metre, etc.) and then Next.

This opens up the Select a Unit of Measure screen where I will select the base unit, which is Foot (ft).  Remember that the base unit should be the smallest unit of measure for your item when  purchasing, tracking and selling it.

This is so QuickBooks (base unit) can count, generate inventory parts and perform quality-related calculations.

In order to save this U/M I will click on Finish and then OK to close the Edit Item screen.

Next up – Setting up Multiple U/M.
